Denise De La Rosa

With over 35 years of experience as a registered nurse and more than 12 years as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I have dedicated my career to advancing healthcare and improving health outcomes for diverse populations. A graduate of Boston College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), I began my career as a Nurse Corps Officer in the United States Army, where I gained invaluable experience working in both the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.

I earned my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Family Nurse Practitioner focus from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and later completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Chatham University. My clinical expertise spans across Emergency Medicine, critical care, and Primary Care, with a deep commitment to caring for underserved and vulnerable populations.

Since 2015, I have served as an educator in graduate nursing education. I am currently the Director of Graduate Programs in Nursing Practice and an Associate Professor at Texas Wesleyan University, where I am passionate about preparing the next generation of nurse leaders and practitioners. My teaching and research interests are centered around population health, with a particular focus on improving health outcomes for vulnerable groups. Notable topics of interest include obesity, the connection between spiritual and mental health to physical well-being and addressing the healthcare needs of human trafficking survivors.

Under my leadership, the Texas Wesleyan University Graduate Programs in Advanced Nursing Practice have cultivated a strong emphasis on serving the underserved, aligning with the professional mission to advance healthcare access and equity.

I am a member of several professional organizations to include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Texas Nurse Practitioners Association, the North Texas Nurse Practitioners Association, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, and Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society for nursing.  I am involved in my community, as a member of several administrative boards and volunteer to provide free physicals to the children at Child Care Associates of Tarrant County.
